SCOLIOSIS CARE IN DC

What is Scoliosis ?

Scoliosis occurs when the spine develops a sideways or lateral curvature greater than 10°. In most cases, this curvature is not known, but around 20% of cases are caused by neurological diseases, trauma or tumors. Idiopathic scoliosis is scoliosis that has no known cause.

Functional scoliosis is caused by a muscle spasm, postural problem, or different leg lengths. This type of scoliosis is usually treatable. If the scoliosis has been classified as structural, then postural strategies will not work. Scoliosis affects more girls than boys and usually develops between 10 and 15 years old. Scoliosis can be passed on to younger children if it is present in a parent or a sibling.

Common Scoliosis Symptoms

Scoliosis can cause intense pain, reduced mobility, decreased lung function and heart function. Scoliosis patients also experience psychological problems, such as low self-esteem. Scoliosis is a condition that affects around 80 percent of the population. Curvatures are usually less than 20 degrees. However, since it most commonly occurs during adolescence it's possible to see a rapid increase in curvatures. Physical evaluation and x rays are used to diagnose scoliosis.

Chiropractic Treatment For Scoliosis

Sacramento chiropractors have found that spinal manipulation, electrical muscle stimulation and therapeutic exercises are the most effective treatment options for scoliosis. Chiropractic treatment has been used by many scoliosis patients who have reported improvement.

The scoliosis pain will be reduced even if the curvature of the spine is not corrected. Scoliosis can cause other areas to compensate for the changes in posture or gait caused by scoliosis, which may lead to pain and new problems. Your chiropractor will find the root cause of your structural pains, and then recommend the best solution for you.
